Bay & Bow Windows
Adding bay and bow windows to your home is a simple way to expand space, frame views, increase natural light, and boost resale value. These window styles are a perfect fit for living rooms, stair landings, and master bedrooms.
These unique window shapes feature 3-6 windows in an angled configuration. This design provides a full 180-degree view of the outdoors and allows plenty of room for shelving options or a window seat.
The seated area created by bay and bow windows can serve as the perfect spot to curl up with a book or enjoy a warm cup of coffee during the chilly winter months. Plus, these windows are energy-efficient, ensuring your indoor temperature stays at a comfortable level year-round. This reduces the burden on your air conditioner and heater, saving you money.
Awning Windows
Designed to increase airflow and light, these windows are hinged at the top and open outward using a crank. They’re similar to vinyl casement windows but differ in that they open from the top rather than the left or right side of the window frame.
They’re perfect for areas that need ventilation but want to protect against rain and snow, like mud rooms or laundry rooms. They’re also great for high-wall applications, like above the kitchen sink.
Awning windows can be paired with other window styles or used as a standalone option. They come in a wide selection of colors, grid designs and glass options to complement any decor style. Plus, energy-efficient awning windows prevent direct sunlight from entering your home or business, reducing the burden on your HVAC system and saving you money on your utility bills.
Double-Hung Windows
When choosing windows, consider the type that best matches your home’s architecture. For older homes, double hung windows are an excellent choice. They offer a timeless design and come in wood or vinyl frames, which provide durability and a modern aesthetic. These windows can also feature argon gas, which helps reduce energy costs and maintain a cool indoor temperature.
These windows are taller than they are wide and feature two moveable sashes, which can slide up and down vertically within the frame. This window style offers more control over ventilation since you can open the top sash or the bottom sash, and it allows for fresh air to circulate throughout your home. In addition, they can be opened from the inside or outside of your home and are easy to clean.
Sliding Windows
The broad horizontal openings of sliding windows offer expansive views and plenty of unobstructed sunlight. They are also easy to open, making them ideal for rooms that require ventilation.
Sliders have fewer parts than double-hung windows, so they tend to be less costly and easier to maintain. They are an excellent choice for homes with limited space or a tight budget.
To open a sliding window, first push the top of the sash up until it sits in the outer track on the frame. Then, continue to apply upward pressure and move the bottom of the sash up and out of the lower track. Carefully lower the sash and place it on the floor. This will allow you to clean your new window without removing it completely from the frame.
Custom Millwork
Unlike standard, off-the-shelf options, custom millwork is fabricated to fit specific spaces and meet aesthetic requirements. Examples include baseboards, crown molding, and wainscoting, which can add a touch of elegance to any room. Whether you are restoring an older home or building new construction, custom millwork can also help improve acoustics and enhance energy efficiency.
Trim shouldn’t be an afterthought, but rather a way to make a statement in any room. Decorative trim can highlight the ceiling, define an entryway, or bring attention to a focal wall. Adding a coffered or tray ceiling is another way to add visual interest and enhance acoustics.
